Greek life at UCLA: six councils, six ways to join

UCLA's fraternities and sororities recruit through six councils, each on its own calendar, from formal recruitment before classes start to NPHC intake later in the year.

Updated

UCLA's fraternities and sororities are not one system. They belong to six councils, overseen by the Office of Fraternity & Sorority Life, and each council chooses new members its own way and on its own calendar. Panhellenic and IFC recruitment start before classes do.

This directory matches 59 chapters to their council. Their pages carry each council's fall 2026 dates, taken from UCLA Fraternity & Sorority Life and the councils' own announcements.

Three words that mean different things

Recruitment
A structured process run by the council, with registration and a fixed schedule. Panhellenic's is called formal recruitment.
Rush
A week of open events hosted by each chapter, after which chapters hand out invitations to join, called bids.
Intake
Used by the National Pan-Hellenic Council: each chapter decides when to take a new class, and invites candidates after informational meetings.

Panhellenic Council

The sororities of the National Panhellenic Conference. Fall 2026 formal recruitment ran from Friday, September 18 to Monday, September 28, before the quarter began. Registration was at uclapanhellenic.com, and the orientation on September 20 was required. Updates are on @UCLAPanhellenic.

Phi Sigma Rho, Panhellenic's associate member for women and non-binary students in the hard sciences and engineering, recruits separately; message @phirhobruins about its fall events.

The council's Meet the Greeks also ran September 28 to October 2; after that, each chapter runs its own recruitment events, so contact the chapter. Updates are on @MIGCUCLA.

Before you go

  • Ask about cost. Chapters charge dues, and some have housing. The amounts differ by chapter and are fair to ask about during recruitment.
  • Ask about time. The new member period has its own schedule. Ask how long it runs and what it involves.
  • You can say no. Going to rush events or informationals does not commit you to accept a bid.
  • Missed fall? Many chapters recruit again at the start of winter quarter. Follow the council's Instagram over the break.

Every chapter's page in the Greek life list has its contact details and its council's dates.
